Factoring invoices is helpful for numerous reasons. It permits a trucking business to raise money without getting new debt. While financial obligation is occasionally essential, many trucking companies would like to raise cash without obtaining cash. Financial obligation is risky, and when it can not be paid back, properties can be repossessed. If the financial obligation is big enough, it may even force a freight broker firm out of business.

Thousands Now Play Who Never Thought They Could - Choose A TruckFactoring Company  Instead Of A Typical Bank Financing

Exactly how to Increase Cash Flow Without Borrowing -Cash Money flow is one of the primary reasons businesses fail.

At one time or another, every business, even successful ones, have actually experienced bad cash flow.

Money flow does not have to be an issue any more. Do not be deceived -- banks are not the only locations you can get financing. Other solutions are available and you do not have to borrow. Exactly what is truck factoring ? One option is called truck factoring. Trucking Factoring is the process of offering accounts receivable to a financier rather than waiting to gather the money from the customer. Oh, the Irony- Truck factoring has an ironic difference: It is the financial foundation of numerous of America's most effective businesses. Why is this ironic ? Because receivable loan funding is not instructed in business colleges, is seldom discussed in business plans and is fairly unidentified to the majority of most of American company individuals.

Yet it is a monetary procedure that releases up billions of dollars every year, enabling countless companies to grow and succeed. Staffing Factoring has been around for countless years. Receivable Funding Businesses are investors who pay money for the right to receive the future payments on your invoices. An unpaid receivable or invoice has value. It is a debt your customer has to pay in the near future. Factoring Principals--Although factoring deals solely with business-to-business transactions, a big percentage of the retail business uses a factoring principal. MasterCard, Visa, and American Express all use a type of factoring in their retail deals. Using the purest meaning of the word, these large customer finance companies are really simply large Trucking Factoring Businesses of consumer paper. Think about it: You purchase at Sears and charge it to your MasterCard. The store gets paid almost immediately, even though you do not make payment until you are ready.

For this service, the credit card business charges Sears a fee (typical common normal fees range from 2 to four percent of the sale). The Benefits Factoring can offer numerous advantages to cash-hungry companies. Rather than wait 30, 60, 90 days or longer for payment on an item that has already been provided, a business can factor (sell) its receivables for cash at a small price cut off the dollar value of the invoice. Payroll, advertising efforts, and working capital are just a few of the business requirements that can be met with instant  cash.

Factoring provides the ways for a producer to renew stock and make more products to sell: There is no longer a need to wait for earlier sales to be paid. Receivable Loan Financing is not simply a cash management device for manufacturers: Almost any type business can take advantage of Staffing Factoring. Typically, a company that extends credit will have 10 to 20 percent of its annual sales bound in accounts receivable at any given time. Think for a minute about how much is bound in 60 days' worth of invoices: You can not pay the power bill or today s payroll with a customer s invoice, however you can sell that invoice for the cash to satisfy those responsibilities. Using truck factoring companies is a quick and easy process. The factor purchases the invoice at a discount, typically a few percentage points less than the stated value of the invoice.

Since the mid 1980s Ferguson Truck & Haul have been successfully running their freight business. For more than twenty years they've been delivering goods for most major industries in the nation, with business booming as they traversed the country, in all kinds of weather, for all kinds of clients. During the heady times from 2002 to 2007, Ferguson was a top rated accounts receivable mastermind of the trucking industry. Few customers were ever late on bills and those clients who were, were sure to turn in their late payments within a reasonable amount of time. Cash was flowing and times were good for all.It was just one year later, in 2008, when the economy in the United States took a sharp decline, and both large and small businesses started to notice the squeeze on their pocketbooks: everyone had suddenly gone silent. Business slowed to a crawl

. And worse yet, Ferguson had noticed during the early part of 2008 that though the bulk of their clients were always on time with payments, the few late-bloomers there were, had seemingly started to spread this illness. And as spring turmed to summer and summer into the early days of fall, Alex Ford, CEO of Ferguson felt a chill go down his spine whenever he would look at the weekly A/R reports. The numbers of clients who owed him back debt were growing. He had gone to his administrators and asked them what the problem had been. Were they doing something wrong or different when it came to reaching out to delinquent accounts? By his bookkeepers records, this wasn't the case. Perhaps he was losing his customers to his competitor, who seemed to offer very low prices with no guarantee of quality or performance, and these clients who were in debt to his company had possibly disappeared leaving him stranded. Perhaps they were unable to pay their debt to him, but were able to meet the costs of a lesser service. But after doing the cursory research for this and talking to friends in the field, he found that alas, no, customers of Ferguson hadn't gone elsewhere. They had just gone home. This current state-of-affairs was causing Alex Ford to have some very restless nights. Alex was very concerned, because there were constant overheads, goods to ship, employees to pay, and trucks which needed to be maintained, but there just wasn't the money coming back into the business. After work he would confide in his wife, Bertha, and neither were unable to stop the constant worry over the lack of funds.""I have a bad feeling, Lin,"" he would say with deep woe.""Well, what do you think it is?"" she would say.Alex would stare off for a moment and then close eyes. He could see the fleet of trucks he had purchased over the years. He could see them on the road, delivering good to all his loyal customers. But somewhere, a haze would form over his fleet and the vast number of vehicles would disappear to but a few. What on earth was happening to create the death of his business?""I know what it is,"" Alex said. ""For way too long I've been relying solely on profits received from invoices. I've let too many of our customers go too long without paying on their bills."" Bertha would look at her husband lovingly, and holding his hand would say 'it is such a harsh economy these days and our clients must be having difficulty meeting their responsibilities'.""Alex knew his wife meant well, but he knew that he was responsible for too many people to sit idly by, waiting for the sun to peak over the clouds. The following day Alex walked into his office with a spring in his step, determined to call each and every client who owed money to Ferguson Truck & Haul. Now, it wasn't the most efficient way to spend a day as a chief executive, what he really needed to be doing was to be overseeing all of the other intricacies of shipment and delivery and reaching out to prospective clients or retraining his sales team to do the same. But, he felt like he was doing something proactive to help his business, even though he had staff on salary to do just that thing. Wasting money, wasting time - even with the best of intentions, Alex knew that he was in trouble.

Poor Alex spent the whole morning trying in vain to contact his debtors: they promised to call back, dodged his calls, or made small interest-only payments. He was beginning to feel quite despaired when his secretary knocked on his door.

""Alex, can I have a word?"" she queried, standing in the doorway.

""Sure thing Viola, come on in."" Alex relaxed back into his chair and looked up at Violaerley.""Well, I did a little searching this afternoon and tried to figure out a way out of this mess Alex."" She opened up a folder she had been carrying and pulled out a small wad of papers, placing them on the desk in front of him.""Have you ever heard of factoring?"" Violaerley asked.""It does sound vaguely familiar. What is it?"" he said.""Well,"" she began, ""Its actually quite simple really.

Basically, factoring invoices means that we would get paid immediately for the loads we haul.""Immediately?"" Alex interrupted.""Immediately, yes"" she added, ""it is actually very simple. We can have an expert account manager review our numbers and help us complete a company profile. Included in the profile would be the investigation of our accounts receivable aging reports, our current customers' credit limits etc.. In addition, factoring will assist in determining our customers' creditworthiness, independent from their credit relationship with our company. It provides a very broad view.""Alex replied cautiously ""I see - and what happens then?""Well, after their review, and were approved for a factoring contract, we can negotiate terms and conditions. Theres a lot of flexibility depending on the business volume and credit histories. The company will advise us the cost to purchase factoring for our company's accounts receivable. Once we arrive at a mutual agreement, the funding begins.Leaning forward, Alex studied the documents very closely.""I do not know, Viola - it just sounds too good to be true"", Alex said quietly.""Yes, I know; that's exactly what I thought at the beginning. But think about it, Alex: they've guaranteed that experts will do all the paperwork, and that will free us up to do what we should be doing - focusing on our customers in good standing, and that kind of stuff. And they're flexible Alex,"" she underlined a paragraph on the paper before him.""How flexible?"" asked Alex.""It seems that they personalize their factoring charges so that the amount they're prepared to work with is commensurate with our client's debt and our needs. It only takes 2 to 4 days for this to be figured out. ""That sounds pretty good, seeing as we tapped ourselves out with bank loans last year to repair the fleet and money sure is tight. it is imperative that we keep the business rolling as usual, and every day we go unpaid we are getting closer and closer to dealing with some serious issues in both the short term and the long term,"" said Alex.Alex took in a long slow breath, then looked at his secretary with something like hope in his eyes.""Exactly. This could very well be the answer to resolving the problems we are having with these clients who still owe us money.""Alex thought about this and agreed with Violaerley. The customers who were in debt to Ferguson Truck & Haul were professional resources of the company, but they were also long-standing friends. They did not want to throw away these relationships because they were having trouble paying their bills now. Alex knew only too well that the whole economy was floundering, and that it was not going to change overnight. If he did not handle these debtors in the right way, that unknown amount of time could spell disaster for all of them. He did not want to lose business but he also did not want to lose any more money.""Well, let me think about this tonight Viola, thank you."" Viola nodded, satisfied with her work, and she left the office feeling quite content in the knowledge that she had helped Alex keep the shirt on his back, and possibly hers too.Alex stayed at his desk for a long time, looking over the details they hadn't discussed during their meeting. He wondered if there might be other problems freight factoring could help Ferguson Truck & Haul with? With his pencil gliding down the sheet he noticed that the factoring company could help fray the cost of fuel with fuel discount cards and fuel advances. In fact, Ferguson could receive up to fifty-percent cash advances upon load pick-ups. Alex was a typical business man: he despised binding contracts that did not allow room to breathe, so he was pleasantly surprised to see that the factoring company did not require a long term contract, that there was no minimum volume required, and that there were no sign-up fees.""I must tell Carlos the good news,"" muttered Alex to himself.Carlos is Alex's son-in-law, and he really admired the ideas behind Ferguson, so much so that only two years before he had started his own transportation service business. Alex knew then what struggles Carlos would face but he encouraged him nonetheless. With the faltering economy, if a big fish like Ferguson was hurting, a little guy like Carlos was about to catch his death. But, an antidote may have been found in freight factoring and Alex was soon to find out. Some months later, having successfully gone through the entire process of the application, having experts study his credit history and statements and review his accounts receivable, Alex found that he was starting his journey out of the despair which had been created for him by his delinquent account holders. They took on reasonable factoring purchase contracts and stopped spending their precious man hours scrambling to collect debt. They used that time to refocus their efforts in being competitive in new territories. Alex looked back on the dismal months of life before freight factoring and almost shuddered at the thought. Had he missed the boat on this one, he probably wouldn't be in business today.

Factoring in the Future of a Trucking Business: A Story Barry Ramos let the phone ring on his desk. He let his morning coffee cool and left his cigarette to ash itself in the tray, because he is trying to make the biggest decision ever for his trucking company. Ramos Trucking Company was at a turning point of growth and Barry had to decide if signing with a factoring company was the right way forward.

Barrys father had started as an owner-operator and had grown Ramos Trucking Company into a fifteen trailer fleet over forty years. Yes, they had survived some very difficult times when it appeared like they might go under, and even Barry's mother had jumped into the cab at times to make hauls. His father had worked long enough to see the price of hires drop dramatically during the recession and to see the explosion of fuel prices afterwards. But now things were different: the company was in Barry's hands and he needed to ensure that this business would be left in great shape for his sons.

To move Ramos Trucking Company ahead into the future, he needed a steady cash flow but there was just not enough money to go around. He had employees to pay. They all have families and the usual household bills. A few of the refrigerated trailers really needed some maintenance, and in order to stay competitive he really wanted to invest in specialized haulers to meet the increasing requests for loads of agricultural and energy equipment. Every time he had to turn down a request, Ramos Trucking looked weak in a very strong market.

His father would have told him to wait and to take his time adding on new technology. Barry allowed himself a good hard chuckle. His father had been against placing GPS units in the cabs. His Dad would say ""Why on earth do you need some stranger telling you to get off the exit that everyone knows has been there for years? Also his father had the habit of teasing all the drivers he caught switching into automatic even though driving in automatic was much more efficient though not manly in his fathers eyes. He knew his father's days were long gone and new technology was very important for the business, like having Qualcomm to reduce communication time for bills of lading.

Barry believed a successful man is always thinking of his next step. How would he take Ramos Trucking to the next level? More importantly, how could he afford it? Funding was all tied up in the mortgage for the office and garage and in the fuel bills. He just finished paying off the small bank loan for installing satellite radio in the trucks for the guys.

But was factoring the answer? There was a lot he didnt understand about the process. It sounded like a ninth grade math problem and he wondered how this would fit into the trucking business. A factoring company actually purchases your invoices and takes control of your accounts receivable, payment being a certain percentage of the amount invoiced. In return, the factoring company pays the trucking business straight away, providing immediate cash flow for the business to pay staff, purchase fuel, and do any repairs or maintenance. Without this assistance, you're placed in the position of waiting for payment from your customers, and this can often be thirty days, or more. In those 30 days, a trucking company cant pay its bills and employees in invoices.

Barry had to really consider what his next step was going to be. He had heard of companies charging for same day money transfers, advancing a percentage of the money owed to your business, while the rest is held in a private account if the bill wasn't paid within sixty or more days. Plus it was worse still if the customer didnt pay up at all because then the factoring company would take it right out of the money supposed to be coming to you! Through the grapevine, hed also heard about how some companies suddenly slipped you onto a sliding scale of percentages even if you had already signed a lengthy contract for maybe 3% or 7% so there you are with 10% coming as a cost to you out of the freight bill. His friend Ronnie who had a trucking business in Missouri, was run nearly into the ground by a factoring company that charged him the full freight bill on top of the factoring fees. He knew he would have to be very careful if he was to avoid any of these shady companies?

However, it all turned out to be very simple. When he called the factoring companies he discovered they were very open about their business practices, and very friendly and helpful. Their customer service actually knew things about their company and spoke in nice clear English so he could understand what was being explained. He was quite happy to sign an exclusive contract. He liked the idea of a long term commitment so he knew he wouldnt have to bother going back and forth to different companies and wasting time filing more forms. Nobody charged him for credit checks and they offered him a fuel advance on the pick-up of the load. In fact there were a few companies who offered him a non-recourse factoring program, and this was exactly what he had been hoping for. He was more than happy with the figures he was offered in percentage terms on the freight bills. It was good money.

For Barry it was quite a relief to be dealing with the factoring company. They were extremely helpful and more personable than the bank staff. It seemed as though those bank people spoke another language, but these factoring guys knew the trucking business and spoke to him like a client, not like a beggar for a handout. The factoring companies didnt worry over his credit and the debt troubles his father had had in the past of the company. Factoring was based on the credit of his customers and on their reliability which worked well for Barry because he and his father had built up good strong relationships over decades with their list of clients. He knew immediately that there would not be any problems when they were contacted by the factoring company regarding their invoices. His clients wouldnt think poorly of Ramos Trucking and the factoring companies appeared capable of handling the accounts receivable in the same polite manner that his father had used over the years.

Feeling happier now, Barry stepped out of his office to advise his secretary to expect to receive the contract very shortly from the factoring company. There was a new bounce is his step now: he knew instinctively that this new step would raise the future of his company to a new and higher level, and that all the stress from the past could now be put behind him. With the capabilities of this new cash flow, Barry could actually expand Ramos Trucking Company further across the country and perhaps even go international into Canada. His heart felt full knowing his sons wouldnt have to worry about money because of the right decisions he had made for their trucking business.

So, this is not a loan? Jeffrey Walker asked as he leaned back in his chair, crossing his legs. The woman who sat across the desk smiled and shook her head. Not quite, she said.Jeffrey Walker owned a small trucking company, and his business had recently fallen on difficult times. Certainly the trucking business can be an extremely profitable venture, and for many years it had been that way for Ray. His company was called Cox Trucking, named after both of his grandfathers, Shawn and Alan. Both of these men had been very hardworking and had set a great example for Ray.Six months ago disaster struck Ray's business when two out of his fleet of fifteen trucks were taken off the road.

One was a roll-over and ended up in the trucking graveyard: the other was involved in a serious and costly accident. The financial security of Ray's company relied on his full fleet on fifteen being on the road, and missing two trucks was just devastating . Furthermore, buying a whole new truck and fixing the other simply took more cash than Jeffrey had on hand.Paying of bills in the trucking industry is always a major cause for concern for businesses.

You could go a month or more before bills were completely paid off. In the long run, this wasnt an issue, but if problems arose, you could find yourself in trouble.Jeffrey was an excellent business man, and he certainly hadn't done anything wrong. Certain events had occurred that he could not possibly have predicted, and now he had to find a way to protect his business and prevent it from ultimate devastation.Thats where the woman across the desk came in. Jeffrey knew she was employed by a Factoring company and that her name was Danielle. He had accidentally come across her company one night when he was working late, searching the internet to see if there was some solution to his financial dilemma.Danielle explained. it is really not a loan at all: we actually buy your accounts receivable. We arent giving you money to be paid back later, were buying something from you, and you can buy it back when you can. That way were protected from a complete loss, but youre protected from the outrageous fees you would find in a loan from the bank.Jeffrey agreed. It sounded perfect - perhaps too good?.The woman laughed. I'm not sure that you believe me, she said.Oh no, I do: it just sounds too good to be true. I actually thought I might end up losing my business.Danielle nodded. We get that a lot. There's no way we want to see you lose your business. We know how hard you work, and that you've invested everything in your business. We all need help sometimes. Thats what were here for.""In any case, thank you for coming to see me.""Its right down the road, usually we do it all online, but I didnt mind swinging on by today, Danielle said with a smile. Lets see what we can do to help you.And right there and then they created a business profile. Jeffrey completed the form, with Danielle offering advice as needed.

The profile filled Danielle and her company in on Rays company, and would help them determine if he was suitable for factoring. Unfortunately, not all companies are. Some were beyond factoring special brand of help, and sometimes things werent even dire enough for it. Listening as Jeffrey filled out his form, Danielle was pretty sure he was a perfect candidate for factoring. When the form was done Danielle took it and slid it into her briefcase. She then stood, reached across the desk and shook Rays hand. He stood before they shook as well, and then smiled. Jeffrey walked Danielle to the door where they said 'Goodbye', then he went back into his office. All his staff members were there, all seven who worked in his office. Sitting behind his desk once more he could hear the familiar sounds of his office workers going about their daily business. He leaned back and closed his eyes. He had felt so helpless lately, was sure the whole thing was collapsing, and would take him with it. Talking to Danielle though, learning about factoring, it felt like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He sat back in his chair and ran a hand through his graying but still thick black hair. The long nights, where he couldnt sleep. The terrifying panic attacks that occurred regardless of where he was. He could feel it all fading away. He knew it wasn't over yet and that there was still a way to go, but he could just feel everything start to change for him. He was there, he was on the right path, and he was working to make things right. His mind wandered back to the very beginning, when he first started his business. He had opened a restaurant at age twenty two when he was fresh out of school. It had been really successful. Offering home cooking in his own hometown, his business had really prospered. But he had gotten bored. He wasn't passionate about the food industry. He thought long and hard, and then he decided to sell the restaurant. He took half a year off, and in that time he thought to start Cox Trucking. So he did it. For the second time in his short life he created a company from the ground up. He had been successful. Then disaster! The two trucks went down and suddenly his success wasn't looking so guaranteed. He was nearing fifty. He didnt think he had it in him, to save this company. But he couldnt give up. The idea of cutting his losses, shutting down, laying off his workers, it actually made him sick some nights. He didnt know how to say quit. And now, because of factoring, he was sure he wouldnt have to. Jeffrey opened his eyes, sat forward, turned his computer on. He had things to do. He could be thankful later, for now, it was time to work.

Traditional Bank Loans

Bank loans are an extremely traditional way for a business to get financing. These loans can be a life-saver, but they're not always available to every business. As an example, a newly formed business may not have the required assets to qualify for a bank loan, and even if they did, it is usual practise for a bank to use the business itself as collateral. This means that if you default on your loan payment you could lose your entire business. Plus, the amount you apply for through the bank is the actual amount that you are going to receive. Once the loan is paid off, you can then apply for another loan if the need arises.

What Are Trucking Factoring Companies?

Trucking Factoring companies do not offer loans, and you do not go into debt when you get money from a Trucking Factoring company. Rather the financing you receive from a Trucking Factoring company is based on money your business has already earned, but have not yet received. The Trucking Factoring company purchases your accounts receivable, or part of them, for a certain percentage of their value - this is normally about 80-95%. The amount of money you can receive is based on the amount of money you have earned and the accounts receivable you are willing to sell. Once you have set up Trucking Factoring account it continues as long as you wish it too and the amount of money available to you even can grow as your business grows, giving you the ready cash you need to meet your own obligations.

What Are The Benefits Of A Trucking Factoring Company Versus A Traditional Bank Loan?

Not every business can benefit from Trucking Factoring account financing because you have to have a business with accounts receivable, however there are many benefits for those who can access this type of finance.

1. There is no debt. You do not incur debt as you do with a bank loan because the Trucking Factoring company actually purchases your accounts receivable. This has many benefits including the fact, that this type of financing will not affect either your business credit rating or your personal credit rating. In the event that your business fails, you would not have to be concerned about someone coming after your personal or your business assets in order to pay off a loan. The debt goes onto your credit report with a bank loan, with only one missed payment adversely affecting your business credit: it would also affect your ability to secure insurance, and may reflect on your personal credit rating as well.

2. No Collateral Required. Another great benefit of using the services of a Trucking Factoring company instead of a bank loan is that there is no collateral required for the Trucking Factoring company, because the Trucking Factoring company is buying your accounts receivables. Plus, the state of your credit rating is not an issue; however the Trucking Factoring company will run a credit check on your clients whose accounts receivable are being offered for financing. This makes it easier for fledgling businesses to get the financing they need through a Trucking Factoring company (as long as their accounts receivables are in good order) then from a bank, who may not feel that you have been in business long enough to be worth the risk of issuing you a loan.

3. Receive Your Money Faster. With a Trucking Factoring company you can actually get the money you need faster. Once the Trucking Factoring company assures itself that the customers in your accounts receivable are likely to pay their debt, the money is usually in the account within 24 hours. With a bank, there are vast amounts of paperwork, then the loan has to be underwritten, which can take months before you actually see the loan if it is approved.

4.Interest is Paid Up Front. With a bank loan interest continues to build, and this has to be paid the whole time you have a business loan; however with a Trucking Factoring company there is no interest - they take it right off the top by deducting it from the total amount of receivable accounts. So you do not have to worry about monthly loan repayments, and you do not have to worry about the amount of interest payable, because all the money in the account is yours to spend.

As you can see, there are several benefits that makes considering financing through a Trucking Factoring company over a traditional bank worthwhile. However, there are also a couple of other benefits that a factory company can offer your business is far beyond the scope of the bank. The main benefit is that once you've sold your accounts receivable to the Trucking Factoring company, you are free from having to collect money owed by your customers. The Trucking Factoring company takes over that chore, since it is now their money to collect. Trucking Factoring companies are very efficient at debt collecting, and this frees up your valuable time to devote to running your company.

In addition, since the Trucking Factoring company evaluates the credit quality of your customers prior to purchasing the accounts receivable you gain valuable information into which customers are likely to pay and which ones are not so likely to pay.A Trucking Factoring company is not the only method of gaining access to finance for the running and growing of your business, however it does offer a financing option well worth considering.
